[net.travel] Staying at Inns in England

I am currently planning a honeymoon trip to the west country
of England for August of this year.
I have a lot of information from the BTA (British Travel Authority)
and other sources on inns and prices, but no information
on how one goes about booking a room at an inn.
 Is there a specific time honored procedure that
one uses?
Can you suggest a procedure?
Can you suggest specific inns to stay at or avoid?
