[net.travel] Info on Canada wanted...

seb@ahutb.UUCP (seb) (03/13/85)

I posted an article a little while ago and I haven't heard anything
from anybody. How depressing! I have to assume that my article never
made it to the outside world, or that the mail back to me never made
it. So, if you answer this article, please post it to the net. I'm
sure there are a few people who would like to hear about the Canadian
Rockies and Vancouver.

Here's the info I seek(what is my quest, so to speak).
I would like info on Lake Louise, Banff, and Jasper. I
will be staying in Lake Louise and Jasper. I will have a rental
car to get around. I am interested in day hikes, whitewater rafting,
wildlife watching and fishing.
I will be taking the train from Jasper or Calgary to Vancouver.
How is the train? Pleasant? Ok? Horrible? Is the scenery amazing?
What is interesting in Vancouver? Is the zoo good(I love zoos)? Can
you get around town without a car? We'll be staying at the Sheraton
Landmark, which is supposed to be downtown.

Thanks for any and all help!

Scenery is beautiful BUT make sure you are doing the trip in the daytime.
When I did it most westbound trains passed through the scenic areas
at night. Boring. If you want a seat in dome car (if on train) arrive
early with a view to occupying same.

I've never been to the zoo. Vancouver downtown is only soso.
Visit Gastown area - cutesy.
Visit Stanley Park - walking, biking.
Get a car and cross the Lion's Gate bridge to West Van.
Drive up the coast. See water, trees, mountains.
Take the ferry to Vancouver Island. Scenic ferry ride through islands,
etc. Take the ferry up the coast. (assorted ferries available -
check current status of reservations, line-ups, etc. All worth the ride,
inexpensive. Various points of departure, south and north ends of Van.)

Sharon,

I'd like to post some info on Vancouver for you, but not being of
general interest, I'd like to send it to you. Please always append
a UUCP address to your notes starting from some "well known" system
such as ihnp4, decvax... so that people can respond.

Your original note did get out! I remember reading it and actually
tried to find "ahutb" in my (old) usenet map, but couldn't find it.
