[comp.windows.x.motif] Simple question about mwm

stuarth@csis.dit.csiro.au (Stuart Hungerford) (10/09/90)

Recently, I've had the pleasure of trying out mwm running on a SparcStation
(SunOS 4.1). What I want to know is how do I make the windows that *do not*
contain the focus appear with the nice bevelled edges etc?

The window that *does* contain the focus appears this way but when the focus
shifts to another window the nice effects disappear. I've got a feeling it's
something in the .Xdefaults setup but perusing the man page I can't see what.

Any ideas?

Thanks if you can help,

Stuart.

If you are using a monochrome display, then the behavior you mention
is the default behavior. The window with the focus gets the darker
pixmap (i.e. better 3D) visual, and the window with out focus gets a
lighter pixmap. You can change the apperance via the following
	resources:

Mwm*backgroundPixmap: 50_foreground
Mwm*activeBackgroundPixmap:	25_foreground

Mwm*topShadowPixmap:
Mwm*activeTopShadowPixmap:
Mwm*activeBottomShadowPixmap:
(there are more...)

Essentially there are resources for active (window with focus) and
other windows (inactive). Pixmaps can have the value background,
foreground, or %%_foreground (where %% are in increments of 25%).
	Hope this helps,
