I'm not an expert, but I have an interesting note to make: I used to be into sleeping on my back (it's very meditative). However, after I stopped meditating, I found that I couldn't go to sleep on my back. I also used to sleep on my stomach, but after I gained (a lot of) weight, I found that that wasn't comfortable either. I tend to sleep on my side a lot now because I am either a) sleeping in my girlfriend's single bed, or b) sleeping on two beanbags (i don't have a bed at home). -- Randwulf (Randy Haskins) genrad!mit-eddie!rh or... rh@mit-ee (via mit-mc)

My sleeping posture tends to be contorted. After all, there's only so much room in a bed for two people and three puppies.
