Greetings, Fellow News Readers: I have some questions about X Windows and Motif version capability and compatability. I am currently running SCO Unix System V/386 Release 3.2 with the mwm (Motif Window Manager) under X Windows X11R3. Question 1: How does one exactly determine which version of mwm is running? According to the Motif manual, the XmVersion macro (found in Xm.h) gives the version (mine says 1000, I assume that this is to be divided by 1000 giving 1.000); is this macro/method always going to be correct? Question 2: How does one exactly determine which version of X is running? According to the X manual, the XtVersion macro (found in IntrinsicP.h) gives the version (mine says 11003, I assume that this is to be divided by 1000 giving 11.003); is this macro/method always going to be correct? Question 3: What is the latest version of Motif? I have heard that it was 1.001, but I don't know of a source for confirmation. What dependencies does it have versus version 1.000, particularly with respect to X Windows X11R3 and X11R4? Question 4: Briefly, what is the status/availability of X11R4? What types of problems would one expect to encounter when porting a development environment from Motif 1.000/X11R3 to the latest version? E-mail responses to the above would be fine, although I would think that other newcomers might also benefit from answers or sources for answers posted here in the news. Many, many thanks in advance. By the way, this is my VERY FIRST news post, so if there is anything wrong with formatting, headers, etc., let me know and I'll fix it. == Steven J.
