[comp.windows.x.motif] 1.0.3 update/patches

ajm@seqp4.ORG (A.J.Madison) (02/04/91)

I sent a message on this topic about two weeks ago, but i have reason to
believe it never attained wide distribution, if i'm wrong, please excuse
the wasteage of bandwidth.

I learned not too long ago that i and my company have missed the 1.0.X
update window. OSF was kind enough to send us the 1.1 tape however.
Unfortunately, for various reasons (schedules and reduced resources) i
would much prefer to update to 1.0.3 (or better). Also, i do not have
it in my power to update X11 to R4.

Before i really attempt such a thing, i have a number of questions:

1. How much work is updating to 1.0.3+? Hours? Days? Weeks? Months?
Don't worry about intangibles. An estimate with 2X error is fine.

2. What is 1.0.3? An entire source tape? A series of source patches?
If a bunch of patches, how many are there?

3. IF 1.0.3 is only a series of patches, anyone out there willing to send
them to me?

Many thanks in advance. --aj madison

1.0.3 is a tiny little tape consisting of source patches (i.e. run
through the 'patch' program) to be applied to your 1.0.2 sources.

I think this is how it worked:

First there was 1.0. Then a source patch tape called 1.0.1 was released.
A new base source release was created from 1.0.1 and called 1.0.A.
Patches came out to 1.0.A and created version 1.0.2.
More patches, making version 1.0.3.
More patches, making version 1.0.4 (yep, there's a 1.0.4 now).

1.1 was released somewhere along the way.
Patches to it have been released, making version 1.1.1.

Assuming you have 1.0.2 sources to start with (if not, start with 1.0.A and
apply the 1.0.2 patches to it), apply the 1.0.3 source patches and just
remake everything. It takes only as long as a full make takes.
