You need to set the constraints (after the create on the XtParent
of the returned widget.  After this you get a gun and shoot the
person who invented convenience routines.

I'm not sure which upsets me more: that people are so unwilling to accept
responsibility for their own actions, or that they are so eager to regulate
everyone else's.
