I am in need of information regarding porting of applications from Motif 1.0 to Motif 1.1. I'm kind of naive about Motif (but I know OLIT really well :-)), so if anyone can help me I would appreciate it. I am interested especially in the following: 0. The answer to this is probably "no", but I'll ask anyway. Is there any chance of compiling a 1.0 appl with the 1.1 toolkit and having it work? 1. What is involved with changes to the functions relating to input focus? We currently use the 1.0 undocumented _XmGrabTheFocus(), and need to know how the operation of this function (or its analog) has changed with the new toolkit. 2. What issues are involved with window grabs? Are they handled by the toolkit or the window manager? If grabs are done differently, will it affect my code at all? 3. Can a 1.1 application function correctly with a 1.0 window manager (and vice versa)? _Is_ there a 1.1 window manager, or is 1.1 just a toolkit release? 4. If there is a 1.1 window manager, is any programmatic access provided to it? 5. Any major changes to resources? What they are called, where they are found? 6. Is Motif 1.1 based on X11R3 or X11R4? If it's based on R4 can I run my application on an R3 server? Thanks for any help you may provide. I _really_ appreciate it. -- --- Greg Pasquariello grp@unify.com Unify Corporation Be good and never poison people

But it depends on what you've done of course. In fact I've even run 1.0 apps with the 1.1 shared libraries - although I wouldn't ever want to ship something in that configuration. > 1. Use XmProcessTraversal and cross your fingers. > 3. I haven't used it yet since I expect most of our customers to still have the old one. So the answer is Yes. > 4. If there is a 1.1 window manager, is any programmatic access > provided to it? No more than 1.0, as far as I know. Although I gather that at 1.0 it didn't all work correctly. > 5. Any major changes to resources? What they are called, where > they are found? Some changes wrt who frees XmStrings. > 6. Is Motif 1.1 based on X11R3 or X11R4? If it's based on R4 > can I run my application on an R3 server? R4, yes.
