[comp.windows.x.motif] Working on that Keysym problem

MULLEN_L@TREES.dnet.ge.com (LEO MULLEN) (04/04/91)

First of all, thank-you for responding, I appreciate it.

It appears that my KeysymDB is the same as yours, so that doesn't appear
to be the problem. What I think the problem is, the file XKeysymDB and/or
the file .motifbind are not being read.

According to the documentation, one of the latest enhancements is,
"A change to the Motif Window Manager (MWM) to read a file, .motifbind,
with bindings for virtual keysyms." What is/was this change? Could this
change have been my problem? And how does/when does the MWM read the
.motifbind file?

And another troubling point in the documentation, comes from the
OSF/Motif Programmer's Reference Manual and it says on page 1-88 that :
... "This mapping is based on information obtained from one of the
following sources, listed in order of precedence:

o A_MOTIF_BINDINGS property on the root window of screen 0. The MWM
sets this property when it starts up, taking the contents from the
.motifbind file in the user's home directory. ... "

Do I have to set this A_MOTIF_BINDINGS property myself, during my startup
procedure? And should this already be set for me in the start-up?

Hopefully we can get this resolved and everyone will benefit, especially
us.

Thanks

Leo Mullen
