I'm planning to do a bicycle tour of the North Cascades Highway this summer, starting in late June/ early July and lasting about 3 weeks. The plan is to head north out of Seattle, Washington, riding on islands in Puget Sound and taking ferry boats between islands; at Anacortes, Washington, I will turn east on Highway 20 (the North Cascades Highway) and follow it and HIghway 2 all the way through Idaho to Glacier National Park in Montana. If there is time, I might consider riding up into Canada as well. This route has the highest concentration of mountain/glacier scenery in the entire United States; it is part of a cross-country route recently developed by the Bikecentennial touring organization as an alternate to the Transamerica Trail. I will be riding 50-70 miles per day, camping out or staying in youth hostels. I'm 27 years old and have done several substantial tours before. I'd like to find about 3 other people to join me and make this a truly memorable tour - is anybody out there interested? My starting date is very flexible at this point in time (I can't leave before June 15, however), but soon I will have to make a final decision. I hope to hear from somebody real soon!
