My wife and I are leaving soon for a three-week vacation in Europe. Our
itinerary is fairly well set -- staying with friends for two days in Amsterdam
going down the Rhine to Mainz and thence to Venice, Rome and Naples.
For the most part we've plotted out the specifics of our visit, but would
certainly be interested in others' favorite places to see and/or stay along
the way. Any information not included in the standard guidebooks is more
than welcome. Further as my wife speaks Italian (she went to high school
in Naples so this is somewhat of a nostalgia trip) and I can mutter a few
passable phrases in German we are certainly not loath to stray from the
beaten tourist path.
