[comp.windows.x.motif] beginner's question about XmText

kk1492@golem.sbc.com. (Kristin Koester 5-3805) (05/29/91)

Netters,
I have a beginner's question about using the XmText widget. I have
a Form widget that contains a ScrolledWindow with the Text inside of
the ScrolledWindow. What I would like to do is to set XmNvalue to the
information in a file, rather than having it set to a string. However,
I would like to do this in a simple way, as opposed to reading the
contents of the file into a string and then setting the value of the Text
to said string. Is there some way, or perhaps something other than XmNvalue
that I could use with just the name of the file?
I've looked at the asciiDiskTextWidget from the athena widget set, and
this seems to provide the capability that I want. Barring being able to
provide this functionality in Motif, is it possible to use widgets from
both the Motif widget set and the athena widget set in one creation routine?
Is this proper?
I've checked the FAQ, and didn't find this information there. Please
excuse the simpleness of these questions, as I am a newcomer to both Motif
and to X.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
