[comp.windows.x.motif] Text widget memory leaks

I discovered that in MOTIF 1.0/X11R3, when you add text to a text widget
via XmTextSetString(), and there was text already in the widget, the memory
used by the previous text is not freed.  Even 'XmTextSetString(w, "")', does
not free old text.
Has this been fixed in 1.1.x?
Is there a work-around in 1.0.x?
