[net.travel] What to see, where to eat, Quebec City

hartley@uvm-cs.UUCP (Stephen J. Hartley) (05/20/85)

I am going to be in Quebec City around May 31st to June 2nd. What are some
of the "don't miss" things to see and do? What are some of the good
restaurants? Please send mail and I will summarize for the net. Thanks.

We had a great time in spite of the lousy weather (cold, overcast, and rainy).
Some of the things we did (and there wasn't time to do everything we wanted):
took the ferry over to Levis and back, watched the sun set at Sainte-Petronville
on the tip of Ile D'Orleans, went around once in the revolving restaurant on top
of the Concord, tour of the Citadel, walking tour of the part of the city within
the fortifications, went through Musee du Fort (model of city showing battles),
went through the Ursuline Museum, walked around Place Royal in Lower Town. Out-
side the city, we saw Montmorency Falls, the Basilica of Ste-Anne de Beaupre,
and Grand Canyon des Chutes Ste-Anne (gorge with waterfall). We had no time for
the Parliament Building, Musee du Quebec, and more. As for eating, there were
too many restaurants to choose from. Everything we tried was excellent.

There were no language problems for non-French-speaking Americans such as us.
We were never ignored and I detected no arrogance. Everybody seemed able to
(and willing to) speak English.
