The thought boggles my mind! An election for net.god? Or two or
more competing candidates gather a large following, but no one gains a
majority, so net.war breaks out between the various kingdoms...

More seriously, if net.godhood is to be made less chaotic, we
should try to retain some anarchistic flavor... Have a new group:
net.gods? for discussing who should or should not be elected to this
elite group, and have occaisional elections. (Although I guess we
could call the actual title conferred something more establishment
oriented such as "USEnet Fellow.") Of course to hold to usenet
traditions, there should be no set schedule of elections, and no fixed
number of net.gods.
On the original issue, I think that the trial hierarchy was a good
idea, but the alternative of creating an alt group seems to dominate.
So I think this one is daed for now.
