"I'm doing this for Hawaii," reads the caption below the picture of the
beautiful woman in the local ads. The text continues:
Want to do someteparate corporation to serve Hawaii, and that its unions have a
no-strike clause.
Lieutenant Governor John Waihee -- in a separate speech to the Honolulu
Rotary at noon yesterday -- outlined a 5-point plan to strengthen Hawaii's
economic base and broaden its visitor market to ease the effects of
transportation strikes. Starting with the assumption that limiting
United's share of the market wouldn't be feasible, he suggested the
state: encourage additional domestic airlines to fly to Hawaii; increasing
state support for ads placed by the Hawaiian Visitors Bureau; exploring
ways to eliminate unnecessary overbooking of airline seats; accelerate
efforts to diversify the state's economy; and diversify Hawaii's travel
markets.
The last item -- perhaps the most useful -- implies attracting more foreign
tourists. If more tourists come from foreign destinations, a domestic
airline strike would have less impact.

you didn't see it ...
ESA's Giotto spacecraft was successfully launched from French Guiana on an
Ariane booster yesterday.
Giotto is the European Space Administration's Halley's Comet probe. So
far, everything is "go".
