[trial.rec.metalworking] Unknown tool

njs@scifi.uucp (Nicholas J. Simicich) (03/19/91)

Yesterday, a friend of mine showed me a brass tool. It looked to be
quite heavy duty. I'll try to do an ascii picture of it:

There are v grooves opposite the little cutter tips that look like
they would hold something about an inch in diameter. The cutters are
about 1/8 inch long, and are made from hardened steel, and are held in
place with a setscrew. They are not ground to points but to rounded
edges, and the edges are set soo that from the side of the tool, they
look like points.

The area outboard of the cutter area consists of broad, strong looking
handles. It looks like you could use these handles to apply quite a
bit of pressure to the tips.

The body of the tool is a heavy brass casting. It was manufacturered
by a NY tool company that we can no longer find. Does anyone know
what this tool is/does? Has anyone seen one before?

If you know, please post. You might also email to alberga@ibm.com.
