[comp.org.sug] LUG Advisory Committee Announcement

dinah@nicolle.bcm.tmc.edu (Dinah Anderson) (08/15/90)

I am pleased to announce the formation of a LUG Advisory Committee. I have
been appointed the chair of this committee by the SUG board and would like
to take this opportunity to describe how I visualize the committee working:

I'd like to see the committee formed of representatives from LUG members
representing different geographic locations. The number of committee members
initially will probably be 3 or 4 and I would be interested in hearing from
interested parties willing to serve on the committee. Part of the committee's
job is to further define the charter of the LUG Advisory Committee and to
determine if this needs to be an on-going function or not.

Initially, I see the committee serving two purposes: facilitate communications
between the LUGS and serving as a focal point for SUG to LUG communications.
This is *not* a replacement for the relationship between Sun's LUG Support
Center and the LUG focals. Each LUG would need to designate a representative
to work with the Advisory Committee and SUG. This person may or may not be
the Focal depending on how each individual LUG wants to run things.

Of course, it is up to the LUGs and the committee members to decide exactly what
needs to be done. These are just my initial ideas.

On Sunday, December 2, there will be a meeting of the Advisory Committee in
San Jose before the 8th Sun User Group Conference and I would like to invite
all LUGs to send 1 or 2 representatives. SUG will provide lunch and the location
will probably be the Fairmont Hotel. The exact details will be posted later.
The agenda will be defined later as well based on input and issues we receive
from the LUGs. SUG board members will be available during this time to answer
questions.

Also, a mailing list will be established in order to facilitate communications
between different Lugs. I will provide subscription information when this
service is available.

If you have comments, questions, or ideas, please feel free to post
to this comp.org.sug or contact me directly.
