Just so you don't think that the board is ignoring this..... We have discussed this issue in the past and we are currently working on an official reply which will be posted here. I expect it to be posted on Monday. William LeFebvre

As promised, a statement from the board: It was suggested recently in this forum that the Sun User Group help fund the sun-spots digest (comp.sys.sun) moderation effort. This very idea was actually proposed and discussed at the last User Group Board of Directors meeting (held in Dallas Texas last July). We were visited by Bob Greene, the current moderator, to get a better idea of the size and effort required. There was certainly a general enthusiasm for this idea among board members. However, the funding of the project is another matter. While the suggestions under consideration were quite reasonable, they did not solve the funding problem. The project involves both hardware and personnel; meaningful support for it will require a significant financial commitment. Given the User Group's present financial commitments (which include production of the 1991 distribution of user-contributed software) it seemed unwise to jump right into this. We didn't say yes, and we didn't say no. But we did decide to wait until we have a better picture of our own finances over the next few months. There have been many changes in the User Group over the last several months, including taking on the salary of a full-time Executive Director (a very wise move, we are convinced). In spirit, we're all with you, you can be assured of that. We want to support the effort, because we all see it as a very valuable tool for the Sun community. But we are not sure that it would be financially responsible at this time. Suggestions are always welcome and can be posted on this newsgroup.
