     1.  Next Meeting

          Our next Bayslug meeting will  be  held  on  Wednesday,
     December  5,  1990,  from  1:30pm  to 2:30pm at the San Jose
     Convention Center in Downtown San Jose. We will meet in Room
     N.  This  BAYSLUG  meeting is in conjunction with the Annual
     Sun User Group Conference. Arrangement has  been  made  with
     SUG that SUG Conference registration is **NOT** required for
     attending this BAYSLUG meeting. There  are  several  parking
     garages  near the San Jose Convention Center. Street parking
     is limited.

     280 Southbound - from SF, Half Moon Bay, Stanford, Los Altos
         Take 280 South to Downtown San Jose
         Take Vine Street/Almaden Ave Exit
         Stay to left, cross Vine St (light), continue on to Almaden
         Approximately 3 lights - Convention Center Complex on right side
         Approximately 4 lights - San Carlos St
         Turn right on San Carlos, Civic Auditorium on left,
         Convention Center on right

     101 Southbound - from SF, Burlingame, San Mateo, Palo Alto
         Take 101 South to Downtown San Jose
         Take Guadalupe Parkway/87 Exit
         Continue on Guadalupe Parkway/87
         Take Park Ave/San Carlos St Exit, turn left
         Approximately 2 blocks, Almaden Ave, turn right
         Turn left on San Carlos St
         Civic Auditorium on left side
         Convention Center on right side

     17/880 Southbound - from Berkeley, Hayward, Fremont, Milpitas
         Take 17/880 South to San Jose
         Take Coleman Avenue Exit, turn left on Coleman Ave
         Continue on Coleman
         Coleman becomes Market St (towards Downtown San Jose)
         Turn right on San Carlos St
         Civic Auditorium on right side

          The speaker  will  be  David  Rosenthal,  Distinguished
     Engineer,  Sun  Microsystems,  Inc.  David  is  one  of  the
     pioneers in both the X and NeWS Windowing System development
     and  requires no further introduction. David will talk about
     "The Future of  X",  which  should  be  a  very  interesting
     presentation  as most of us are either using X or OpenWindow
     as our day-to-day windowing environment.

          Abstract: X version 11 seems to be fated to become  the
     Fortran  of  window  systems;   too  useful to change.  This

     makes  it  important  to   examine   its   constraints   and
     limitations,   because  the  X community will be living with
     them a long time.

          At the  July  1990  Western  Regional  Sun  User  Group
     Conference  hosted  by  BAYSLUG, Michael Powell's "Future of
     Unix" presentation received a standing ovation! As a result,
     this presentation on X is considered as a logical extension.

          There will be a short discussion on how to obtain  both
     UUCP and mail feeds after the presentation for those who are
     not connected to the Internet/USENET community.

     2.  Acknowledgment

          As always, we appreciate the assistance from  both  Sun
     Microsystems  and  The  Sun User Group office, for providing
     meeting facilities, refreshments,  and  mailing  of  BAYSLUG
     newsletter.   BAYSLUG meetings would not be possible without
     their kind support.

          Any Sun user with  an  interest  in  Sun  Microsystems'
     hardware  or  software product line is welcome to attend our
     meetings.  BAYSLUG meets approximately once every 2  months,
     usually  in the Silicon Valley (aka South SF Bay Area) area.
