From the keys of Steve Henning, AT&T Bell Labs, Reading, PA. rduxb!smh From climate maps of the world, there are only 6 places in the world that I found that fit the requirements of never above 80 and never freezing. They are: 1) The tip of south Africa: ie. Cape Town average max = 78 F and average min = 45 F 2) Melbourne and Tasmania: The only data I have is for Sydney which can get warm: Sydney average max = 78 F and average min = 46 F 3) The north-east part of the South Island of New Zealand: 4) Portions of the West Coast of the US: ie. LA 78.9 F Ave. Max 46.6 F Ave Min Records: 92 F Hi & 35 F Lo SF 70.1 F Ave. Max 38.3 F Ave Min Records: 93 F Hi & 33 F Lo Seattle 71.7 F Ave. Max 35.4 F Ave Min Records: 94 F Hi & 14 F Lo 5) Part of Chile south of Santiago: 6) The south-western tip of Ireland (Garinish): The definition of 'Ave. Max' is the average daily high for the warmest month, and 'Ave. Min' is the average daily low for the coolest month. Obviously, it appears that the records tend to blow the trends right out of the desired range. It looks like that perhaps Chile, Australia, and Ireland still have a chance if someone has access to the record temperatures of some rather small cities.
