I am considering a winter holiday to Rio de Janeiro and
hope to get some recommendations on what to see, do, etc.
I would also like to know if anyone out there has been to Rio
during the famous carnival. My tour package will be about
$350 Cdn. more if I and my friends are in Rio during the carnival.
(package is about $2200 incl. airfare, hotels, Buenos Aieres).
Is it worthwhile seeing the carnival, or is it just a wild fiasco?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Last time I was in Rio, we paid a taxi driver to take us to Sugar Loaf,
Corcovado, Tijuca National Forest, the beaches, etc. Kept the cab all
day and paid him US$40 - well worth it! Never been in Rio for Carnival,
Hotel and other rates go up, town is packed with tourists then and it's
hard to enjoy unless you just want to party... I'd recommend you see Rio
first in non-Carnival times.
