[comp.sys.amiga.games] Times Of Lore

barrett@jhunix.HCF.JHU.EDU (Dan Barrett) (06/05/90)

Has anybody managed to back up their copy of (copy-protected)
TIMES OF LORE for the Amiga? Has anybody managed to install it on a
hard disk?

Mini-review: This is a games somewhat like "Faery Tale Adventure".
The graphics are of much lower quality than FTA's, but the plot is similar.
Your goal is to go on a quest, retrieve some magical objects, and save the
world in general. You've heard it before. :-)

The game seems fun so far (only 3 hours of playing), but the "save"
feature is TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE:

o	You can save ONLY when your character is visiting an inn.
Inns are in cities, and it's a long walk between cities.

o	The game is saved ONLY onto the copy-protected master disk.
This means that if your master disk gets trashed, you lose
		all your progress.

The user interface is simple, but it is too easy to hit the joystick button
accidentally, swinging your weapon at a friendly character. This makes the
other character refuse to talk to you, or even attack you! Since you can
save only at certain places in the game, this makes it EASY to screw up an
hour of adventuring by a single press of a button. This SUCKS!

On the positive side, it looks like a large-scale, deep game.
It comes with a large, colorful map (about 2x3 feet) to guide your character.

It's too early in the game for me to form any really strong
impressions.

                                                        Dan
