Dave Sherman, bless his soul, blaims the number of lawyers on the number
of interest groups in our democratic society. But who helped those
lobbyists present their cases as legally plausible? Lawyers. Who
passed the legislation? By and large, local, state and federal assemblies
consist of...lawyers.

And all those laws, facilitated and promoted and ratified by lawyers--THAT'S
why we need so many lawyers! We need lawyers 'cuz we need 'em, is what he's
saying, in effect.

An over-emotional but not comparatively inept argument for the social
necessity of heroin dealers can be made with such logic. But let's give
Dave another chance. Or (as I have had occasion to say to a lawyer or
two), "could run that one by me again?"
