Can anyone make some recommendations on a good space flight simulator? The ones I have just don't live up to what the Amiga can do...
Starflight: On an IBM, I would be happy with this game, but the bland
graphics and poor sound really suck. The appendix with the history was
very amusing though. But the landing sequence looks like it was done by
amateurs; where is all the music??! The Amiga doesn't have 4 voice stereo
for nothing! It would've been nice if they could've used the fractal
landscapes in the PD Scenegen program (wishful thinking).
The Map was a nice touch; It is codewheel protected, not copy-protected.
Elite: What a total disappointment. The graphics aren't much better than
the 64 version. In fact, I felt that the 64's line-drawn hidden-surface
removed type graphics conveyed a greater sci-fi feeling than the Amiga's
colored and filled polygons. The Amiga's graphics capabilities could have
been used much more to add greater detail. If you've got the 64 version,
you've got a better version.
Manual code-word protected.
Space Rogue: The graphics here are not too shabby. I haven't played enough
of this one yet, but I found the ship difficult to control in a combat
situation. It was difficult to locate the enemy as well. I consider
combat the most important part, so this was a real letdown. For $44.96,
the game also includes a novella, nicely done "Spaceracer Owner's Guide"
which looks like your average car owner's handbook, and ad for Hive! (a
game within the game), a colorful map, and two paper spaceships that
you can put together.
It's not copy-protected, only manual-protected. Hard-drive installable.
Any game recommendations anybody? Email or discussion encouraged.
