Was anyone ever able to solve the original Xenon? Did anyone ever get a trained version of it? I loved the game but was never able to get past the level whose walls were pink (4?). Even an auto-fire joystick was no help on this one. On another note: Fred, has anyone seen this game? I highly recommend it for its entertainment value. Just a cool game that is very unique; however, it is incredibly easy to solve (even without a trainer).

Later I tried it with c64 as an autofire (firing at 25hz) and it's quite easy that way. MITT -- Mikko "Assembler rules OK!" Anybody have hints about how to get through the corridor after the second Sentinel on Xenon? My 7-year old gets past the Sentinels with no problem, but has trouble with running out of fuel (life?) after the second one because he gets hit with so many shots.

I might be able to help your son get through the first half of the "green" level (as I call it). Sounds like he's pretty good at it, considering many of my friends haven't gotten past the first Sentinel. First, a few general hints. Through the entire first half of this level, always use the 'wide' shots. The 'follower' pods don't work as well for this part because you have to get so close to the wall to get some of the gun turrets on the sides. (They are really handy on the second half of this level, however.) Also, always remember that the little shot pods on your wingtips are completely invulnerable. You can put them out into the walls or on top of other ships without any harm coming to you. This is why these side shots are so useful on this level - you can get all the little cannons on the walls without having to maneuver extremely close to the walls. This is definitely a hard part of the game (it took me a long time to master it), but if you keep working at it and know what to look for, it will become easy. (This is something I like about Xenon...an good learning curve.) One last thing...excuse the names I place on the various enemies on Xenon. I really got into this game. :-) OK, now a walkthrough up to the third Sentinel. (This is how I do it, there are probably many other ways.) If at first everything goes by too quickly to think of, just pause the game and compare what you saw with this text. As you enter the corridor, first go to the right edge and destroy the "pincer" thingy attached to the wall that releases little ships. Also be sure to get any little ships it releases in your line of fire. These can be a real pain here if not dealt with immediately. Then, you *must* destroy the four little "spinning" ships that come down from the top in a horizontal formation. When you destroy them all, they release a "wide" pill that is basically required to get through this part. Don't worry about the big wheel ship that shoots long yellow bullets. Just go on past it. Destroy orange moving cannon coming down left wall Don't worry about the grey rapid-fire cannons shooting from the right wall. Just back up until they're almost hitting you, then rush through them. A leftward diagonal slant can keep you from getting hit more than once or twice. (Go with the bullets.) A set of four spiraling ships will come from the lower right corner of the screen. Don't worry about them yet. First kill the two stationary green cannons on either side of the screen. Kill the left one first, then go to the right edge and wait until the spiral ships move up enough for you to get behind and destroy the green cannon on the right. In the process you will take out several of the spiral ships anyway, and the others are easy to kill after those omnidirectional green cannons are out of the way. The spiral ships release a "power" pellet that makes your shots go farther, handy but not absolutely necessary if there isn't time. You'll come to an indentation in the wall on either side, and two orange cannons will come down it, one on either side. Destroy them. Three large ships will now come slowly down the screen from the top. Don't worry about killing all three, they just hold a follower pod which is not a good thing in this part of the game. Just try to kill one of them before it shoots, so you can get a clean path. Even if one of them does shoot before you can kill it, you can still slip between the long yellow shots, but it's hard. (There's only one horizontal position.) The left wall will "outdent" again, and there will be two cannons in the middle of it, one stationary and one (behind it) the orange, moving kind. Destroy them. The left wall will indent again, and another orange cannon will come down it. Destroy it, then *immediately* go over to the right edge of the screen. You must position yourself carefully - your right wingtip shot pod should be completely over the right wall, and your wing should look like it is scraping the wall. Four green "tootsie-roll" ships will come up from the bottom, and if you're positioned correctly, the one on the very right will almost, but not quit, hit you. Try to destroy all of these ships. They will release a side laser, which can be quite useful (but not completely necessary) later. Both walls will then indent a long ways, with lots of cannons and a "plunger" sticking out the sides. Kill the cannons quickly before the plunger starts "plunging" and blocks your shots at the little cannon just above it. (If you don't, just use the side laser you [hopefully] picked up from the tootsie-roll ships.) After the wall "outdents" again, two more little orange cannons will come down either side of the wall, and a group of tootsie-roll ships in a space-invaders formation will come down the screen. I usually go for the rightmost orange ship the moment it comes on, then destroy the left one with my side shots as I blast the formation. You *must* destroy the entire formation! It releases a max fuel pod which will probably be badly needed at this point. Two rapid-fire cannons situated on an indent on the left side of the screen will appear, around a fake plunger. (It doesn't plunge.) Destroy them if you have time. Another orange moving cannon will come down the right side. Destroy it. Don't worry about the rapid-fire cannons in the left wall, even if you have the side lasers. Hanging around in their path can be quite dangerous. Just rush through them with an up-right slanted path. Some little spinning ships will come down, dancing between the left and right edges of the screen. Destroy them...they're easy. They leave another "wide" pill, extremely useful if you've died since the start of the level. Just past this a major indent will appear, creating a thin "hole" with plungers on either side. There are cannons situated on the hole walls. You should line up your ship so that all three of your bullet "streams" go through the hole. Now just start shooting, and keep shooting. A bunch of little "corn candy" ships will come down through the hole, which your bullets should destroy easily. The plungers will probably start up before the last one is through, but if you stay back, it will still run into your bullets before it runs into you. After the ships are gone, you *must* take the first opportunity to get through the plungers. There is no second opportunity here. Run through the hole just as the plungers get completely out...they go quite slow compared to your ship. (When I get caught here, it's usually because I go too early.) After this, there are just a few waves of different ships, which shouldn't be a problem if you just keep shooting and sweeping the screen. Then the walls will end and you will come to... The Third Sentinel Have fun! Bryan

Talking of Xenon, does anyone know any cheats for Xenon II ? I got to the point where, half-way through the third level, I simply could not get any further. So, is there any little thing I can type into the high score table (or whatever) to make life easier?
