I had Archon and Archon II for the '64 and loved them. A friend of mine
had Archon for his Amiga 1000 with 1.1. I borrowed it for a while to play,
but was disappointed to find that it didn't work on my machine.
I have an Amiga 500 with 1.3 Kickstart ROMs, 512K chip RAM, and 3.5Mb
Fast RAM. I would like to know if there's an updated copy available for a
1.3 Amiga of Archon. Also, I would like to know if Archon II is available
for the Amiga.
I realize that this posting is concerning an old game, but I like both
Archons very much. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

I think you better disable your fast ram using the Bootnofast program , Or it could be that it was an old version, you might need dos 1.2, but I doubt that, it's probably your fast mem that's causing the problem. As to archon 2, I think it's available on the amiga, but I am not so sure. kchiu@carina.unm.edu

Both ARCHON and ARCHON II are available for the Amiga. However,
neither one has been updated since Kickstart 1.1, so they don't run under
higher versions of the OS (or in the presence of expansion memory).
You can make ARCHON run under 1.3 by applying a public-domain patch called
"fixarchon". It is available by anonymous ftp from abcfd20.larc.nasa.gov
(the "new xanth"), 128.155.23.64.
ARCHON II can also be made to run under 1.3 -- I did it. However,
I don't remember what I did. I definitely applied a patch contributed
by a USENET person, but that's all I remember. Sorry.
It is totally stupid that Electronic Arts did not update these
games. I have seen dozens of requests like yours over the years, and these
are GREAT games with high playability and staying power.

A lot of you guys seem to be saying that if you have KS1.3 that Archon will not work, especially with expanded RAM. I find the opposite! My copy of Archon will ONLY run with expanded RAM (the A501). I was very peeved with Electronic Arts, who do not advertise any incompatibilities on the packaging. I phoned them and asked what the story was, but I just got rhetoric about the intention to mark the boxes, which of course never transpired. They very kindly (sic) offerred a trade-in of Archon for some other similarly priced game.
