[comp.sys.amiga.games] Day Of The Viper crashes

brianr@tekig5.PEN.TEK.COM (Brian E Rhodefer) (09/06/90)

Other than a maddening (and mouse-debilitating) lack of a
keyboard-driven motion control alternative, this game seems
to be very well done, and almost as enjoyable as DungeonMaster.

Unfortunately, the single save file that the game maintains
invariably winds up corrupted about halfway through the game.
The symptoms are that when I attempt to load the saved game,
a black-and-white version of the normal screen (as if only a
single bitplane were being displayed) is displayed for about a
second, followed first by the blinking power LED and then by Mr. Guru.

I'm running the game from harddisk, invoking it via the CLI.
I've copied the versions of the SetPatch and RunBack programs
provided on the DOTV distribution floppy (they were different
than the versions I originally had). I also had to install the
NIL: device provided on the distribution floppy.

Is there a known workaround for this problem?

If no one here knows of any, but anyone is interested, I'm willing
to call up the distributor (Accolade) and post their answer.
