*** *** Several weeks ago, I requested information concerning resorts and package deals for a week-long honeymoon to a warm, sunny place. Here is the promised follow-up, with an extreme condensation of the information many kind-hearted souls sent me (and in one instance, delivered in person). Personal recommendations and experiences ranged from an in depth Club Med vacation report to a sales job for cruises. The one common thread running through most of the advice was simply to find a good travel agent-- one who has been to the places they are talking about. On the basis of all the information, and with my experiences since posting, here's what I've come up with so far: 1) There are travel agents out there who specialize in sending students home to Duluth but will happily describe the pleasures of, say, Antigua, without ever having been there. Nod politely to these people, thank them when they are through, and go directly to another agency. 2) I will enjoy a jaunt on a cruise ship, but not this time out. 3) The cost and availability of organized activities at any particular location is inversely proportional to the number of people to expect (solitude has its price). 4) There are more vacation options available than I had ever thought possible, just in Jamaica. 5) I (we) still haven't decided exactly what we want to do. We're vacillating between the everything-paid-up-front resort (Couples, Sandals, Hedonism, etc), the appeal of a bit more expensive trip to a less organised but more secluded spot (the Cayman Islands), or a week on Kauai. (And I'm still willing to be swayed by a plug for your personal favorite-- nothing beats a personal report by a satisfied customer.) 6) We will probably enjoy our trip wherever we go, so we probably should not be spending so much time and energy trying to decide. - Joel Plutchak {allegra,ihnp4,seismo}!uwvax!uwmacc!oyster
