The bit about "US Amigas" has to do with the fact that, in the past, Amigas
sold in the US were shipped with a different Agnus chip, which could
display fewer lines than the European (PAL) Agnus. However, since the
fatter Agnus came out quite some time ago, there is absolutely no
difference between US & European Amigas (except for the power supply &
other things that don't matter in this discussion).

By the way, I have only found one program that actually crashes in
NTSC mode (that was designed for PAL): Oktalyzer. Usually you just lose
part of the screen, the graphics flicker, the sound is too fast or too
slow, etc., but it still works.
