I haven't been playing zak for very long, but i'm a bit stuck.how do you light the branch & nest in the fire pit? what the hell do you do on the plane? can you get the squirrel's nest without killing it?

How to light the branch and what to you have to do on the plane are related. On the plane you need to distract the stewardess so that you can look (and take) a few things from the baggage compartments. You don't need the squirrel's nest. Other things can be used to start the fire. Killing the squirrel will hurt your karma, but it won't stop you from finishing the game.

On the plane you first need to go into the bathroom. Take the toilet paper and put it in the sink (this is going to get messy...). Now turn on the faucett and ring the attendent bell. Now race to the front of the plane and put the egg in the microwave and turn it on. Now methodically search the overhead luggage compartments until you find the oxygen tank. You also might want to take your seat cushion....
