These are my comments based on playing the game for half a day. Immortal is a pseudo-3D action/puzzle D&D type game. You are a wizard whose goal is to rescue some old master from the depths of the dungeon (sound familiar). The viewing perspective is as though you were looking down from the top corner of the ceiling. You move you character around using the joystick and seleted different wepons/tools/artifacts with the space bar/joystick. The game is real time except when you pause to select an item. Fighting with monsters is done arcade style with the joystick. To sum up the game briefly: Kill monsters, pick up their belonging, find clues, solve puzzles to continue on to the next level. More verbosely: When monsters are killed, they leave behind some gold, and a few accessories (potions, powders, tools, ect). Clues are given by various characters you meet in the dungeon. The clues basically tell you how to solve a puzzle to open up the passage to the next level. (OK, not that verbose) Good points: Graphics are quite smooth, and the animation in most parts is very good. The background music in not irritating (at least to me) but can be turned off if desired. Some puzzles are quite clever. Joystic controls are OK. Bad points: There is very little character development; ie. build up strength, wepons, armour, ect. The music although quite appropriate, is much louder than the fighting noises. (i would have like it the other way around) The clues are sometimes quite frustrating to find because the character gets killed quite often. Graphics: 90% Sound: 80% Playability 70% (seems like a game you only play through once) Docs 80% Copy Protect YES (seems to be disk _and_ manual) Save game SortOf (password/code is given) ------------------------- Overall 75% (fairly good) (relative scale: Dungeon Master: 95% Drakkhen: 85% Heros of the Lance: 40% ----------------------------- George Lin a309@mindlink uunet!van-bc!rsoft!mindlink!George_Lin
