[comp.sys.amiga.games] F16 INTERCEPTOR - Last Mission

brogana@project4.computer-science.manchester.ac.uk (10/12/90)

	I don't know if there's something wrong
with my software but i can't blow that bloody
submarine up.My method is to simply fire a few
of those supposedly effective missiles at the
beast but even with direct hits, there still doesn't
seem to be a blemish on the perfect paintwork.
Can somebody out there enlighten me with
 the correct method (if any).

		Thanks
		        Adrian Brogan.

I don't think that it's possible.... have never heard of anyone
blowing it up.... just hit it with a missile and I think that's
	all you need to win....

You CAN land on the sub yourself..... and get re-fueled AND re-armed!

	Later

I'm not sure that it can be blown up, at least, I've never succeeded
at doing so. I only get "mission complete" after shooting down four
migs, or if my memory isn't gone (which is possible), after shooting
down three migs and firing a couple of missles into the top part of
the conning tower of the enemy sub.

It would have been nice to see the sub go up in flames, though.

Ever try landing on the enemy sub? You can do it, but you need to
stomp on the brakes real quick because the deck's so short. You'll
get a laugh out of what happens next - remember it's a RUSSIAN sub
that you've landed on.

Taking off is a challenge too. The question is: how can I get enough
power to launch off this short deck? Try it and have fun!

If I remember correctly, you can't sink the sub, but you can complete the
mission. You have to cross the sub's deck at 100ft or less, and then start
zapping migs, wait for a cruise missle, then another mig...then you should
get the congratz message. Anyone...correct where necessary, it's been a few
months since I played it last.

I do it not by killing the sub (you can't) all i do is shoot down all the
aircraft and it then qualifies you.

while I'm here what is the secret mision (the one that you start from the
other airfields?)

thanks for your help and i hope i've been of some help

Secret mission? I haven't seen any secret mission in F18. Do you know
how you get into it?

The only mission I know of that starts on an airfield rather than the
carrier is the very first mission (air recon). You can choose either
the F-16 or the F-18, and it starts you off from SFO (San Franciso
International). You're supposed to find and identify the bogey that
the mission information directed you to, and then return to base (any
airfield will do on landing). You're not supposed to engage the bogey
unless fired on. Is this the mission you're thinking of?

There is also free-flight mode, which allows you to choose to fly
either plane, and to start from any of the four airfields or the
carrier. There's no mission here, though. You just fly around,
enjoy the scenery, try out your acrobatics, and fire your missles
into everything in sight for some fun.

Side-note: A couple of times I've done that mission, the bogey turned
out to be a commercial 727 airliner coming in over land from the
northeast. Looks an awful lot like the President's plane. Hummm...

The only thing you can do is to pick free-flight. Then when it asks you
where you want to take off from, pick one of the numbers that _isn't_ an
alternative, i.e. I think the airfields are numbered 1-4, so pick 5, 6, etc.
This will start you off in some wierd place with no scenery, airstrip, or
anything.

Incidentally, there's nothing to do either. Specifically, no secret mission.
Sorry to shatter those high hopes.

I also could not sink the sub but I did manage to set fire to it with
smoke coming out from two places. And I shot down all the Migs and a
cruise missile and landed back on my own carrier and nothing
happened! There must be something else to do to complete the mission.
