There's a real grass roots effort to convince someone to do Space Taxi
for the Amiga on PeopleLink... It seems like *every* time someone asks what
type of new game they should be doing, everyone coruses 'Space Taxi!', 'Hey
Taxi!' and 'Pad Nine Please.'

One has to wonder, however, if some of the 'magic' of the game might be lost
in an Amiga translation. If the digitized voices in the C64 version were
fixed up (i.e. made clearer) it might be for the worse. The rough sounding
sampled voices and the tinny 'bee bee beep oo beep' between levels couldn't
be changed too drastically, I feel. I'm not saying they couldn't expand and
improve the sounds in the game, but they should use synthesized instruments
for the music, rather than digitized ones. There are Amiga users who would
disagree with my sound opinions (no pun intended). But, oh well.

The Space Taxi graphics could easily be smoothed and made more colorful
without loosing the ST magic. Include all the original game'e levels,
options, etc... plus add a level editor, hard disk support, multitasking
support, accelerated Amiga support, 2.0 support,...

Someone put this post on Plink! :-)

Actually, I agree that part of the Space Taxi experience is the
wonderful 'computer' sounding speech samples. With a coarse enough sample
and a slow enough playback, you could make an Amiga sound right. Although,
the music should definately be a good synthesized set of instruments.

Here's where the Amiga version should really shine. Very smooth
movement, enough more colors to clean up all edges, significantly more
levels, finer control on the ship, etc... I don't know whether multitasking
support is really necessary for this type of game though. Maybe a method
to get back to your typical workbench environment while the game is paused.
A level editor would be a tough nut... Providing support for custom
background images is simple enough, but deciding what is a surface and what
is background would be more difficult. Definately hard disk installable!

No problem, I'll put it up tomorrow or the next day...

Space Taxi is one of my favorite games. I've considered getting another C64
just to play this game. An Amiga version would be great, I think what would
be most important in doing a port would be the feel of the thrust controls.
The original game had a great illusion of realism in using the thrusters, it
was neither too touchy nor too easy. You could kind of get the feel that the
vehicle you controlled weighed a few tons.
