[comp.sys.amiga.games] Populous sequel

whitehec@project4.computer-science.manchester.ac.uk (10/18/90)

I saw a screenshot a couple of months ago for a game
called Powermonger. This looked very similar to Populous,
with a map and icons around it,etc.

I think it could be a sequel. Anybody know?

Powermonger is actually Bullfrog's followup to Populous, but
PM looks much better with the ability to scroll and zoom the
playarea. And unlike Populous, it is more of a military
'simulation'. I does, however, have some similarities to its
'father'. The game is totally icon-controlled and involves
small people and buildings. After reading a preview of this
game, I think it will be a new bestseller for Bullfrog.

Yep, PowerMonger is the sequel to Populous.

Hmmm...I read in a recent Amiga Format (UK mag) that EA confirmed that
Populous II was in the pipeline. Up to that point, I had thought that
Powermonger was the sequel. I'm confused now! Powermonger has been advertised
in magazines over here for over a month now, and yet there's still no sign
of it in shops or from mail order...smacks of a late bug. I wish that when
something was advertised it meant that it was available (soon) rather than
this business of getting folk interested and them p**sing them off for months
by not releasing it. Whinge, groan... Anyway, I'll be checking the shelves
every day till I *DO* get it :-)

Well, maybe there will be a Populous II and PowerMonger. That would be even
better than just PowerMonger! But anyway, the layout of PowerMonger looks
similar enough to Populous to call it a sequel, in my opinion.

Well, the guys at Bullfrog indicated Powermonger will be what Populous
should have been. They are adding so much to the original populous idea that
they did not reuse a single bit of code or graphic data. They claim this new
game will replace that "spineless and wimpy" game Populous (as they put it).
