[comp.sys.amiga.games] Full Metal Planet - Don't be mislead!

I just purchased Full Metal Planet yesterday and I just thought I might warn
you all about it. Don't be mislead by this statement on the back of the
box:

Off disk copy protection
Manual required.

Now this would make you think its HD installable right? Wrong. The game
is protected with both disk and manual protection. Talk about overkill.
The bootblock has some sort of special loader which makes AmigaDos choke
on its usual CheckSum 880 error.

To top it off, it has instructions for IBM users on how to install it on
THEIR harddrives! What a bunch of hippocrites. What do they think?
Amiga users don't own harddrives or don't put anything on them?

The game is good, I don't begrudge them that. Just makes me mad that they
make it HD installable on one platform and not the other.

> Talk about how Full Metal Planet can't be installed on a hard-drive

Yup, I talked with a rep from the company that does this game and
Chamber of the Sci-Mutant... at GEN CON90 this past summer. I
told him that I was not pleased at the fact that none of their
games were hard-drive installable on the Amiga. He said something
to the effect that, ``Not many Amiga owners have hard-drives so
it is not worth our time to make a game HD installable.'' I, of
course, fired back that it is plainly easier to make any program
on the Amiga support a HD because you *have* to go out of your way
to not support a HD! In fact, the only reason one would want to
make a program or game uninstallable is to try to stop copying. I
also said to this man that the only people who are hurt by their
f*cking copy protection are the valid owners. I buy a lot of
games, but in this case I would say wait for the cracked version
that supports a hard drive. Don't buy this game or any other from
this company that thumbs their noses at Amiga users. I will say this,
the game looked cool, I would buy it if I could put it on my HD.
