Basicaly, you have to approach the planet manualy and steer the ship so that the red marker is between the red outer circle and the planet. You have to continue making minor adjustments to keep the marker in place until the game informs you that you have achieved orbit.) 2. When you encounter a Federation ship in space. (The Enterprise is moving at ~1/4 impulse by default, so you have a certain ammount of time to do the transporting before the ship moves out of range, unless you stop the ship). If you attempt to use the transporter at other times the program will complain "Sir, there is no target for transport!".
