[comp.sys.amiga.games] Ultima V - Poor Amiga Implementation

jlehmann@wpi.WPI.EDU (Jonas A. Lehmann) (11/30/90)

Okay,
I also support the fact that the Amiga Version of the great Ultima V was some
what of a disappointment. Sure, writing a game like Ultima is not easy to do
and with that in mind I do want to say that they didn't do a bad job. I mean
at least it has all functions of the other ones. Origin must have had
some pretty good reason for not making it HD installable or at least faster
loading. Perhaps Origin suffers a lot under Piracy of their games and
thus felt this was necessary in order to make some profit, who knows.
If Origin is reading this then I would suggest a manual protection or
good old fashioned key-disk protection but at least make it HD installable
so that playability increases. Ultima VI will not be playable at all if it
is ever converted in a fashion similar to this one.

PS: I bought the IBM Version and saw the Amiga Version at a friends place and
am not buying the Amiga Version.

A *VERY* big disapointment! How can they take so long and *STILL* produce
code that looks like it was done in a couple of months?

Surely you jest! Ultima is one of the games I was hoping Origin would do a
good job of for the Amiga (since they MUST know by now that III & IV sucks)
If they can do as good a job for the IBM version why can't they do so for
the Amiga one? I'm sure it can be done!

Neither am I and I will tell as many people as I can *NOT* to buy it.
I think that is the most effective way to tell Origin that we don't like
   what they are doing.

I am *NOT* buying the IBM version since that will promote it on another
   platform.

   Support Amiga friendly games!!!

Well, I think that rather than just straight out NOT BUYING the amiga ultima five port, it'd probably be best supplemented by a FEROCIOUS letter-writing campaign. I would think that poor amiga sales would more likely result in Origin DROPPING the amiga ports. However, poor amiga sales along with plenty o' letters basting the port quality would probably help them "see the light"...
