[comp.sys.amiga.games] GAMES: Final Choice

RPG fans might also want to check out the following Dungeon
Master-like (first-person view) games:

Captive

Cross between Dungeon Master, Starflight, and BattleMech type
games. Only problem is that there are no puzzles to solve other than
the ones involved in trying to figure out what a device does and how
to use it. You do need to use some of the devices to get into certain
parts of the bases, but the game mostly involves fighting and
equipping and upgrading your 4 mechs. Nice graphics and sound, though
it would be more exciting if the nasties made more sound when they
were stalking you.

Corporation

Smooth scrolling dungeon type game. Highly rated. I don't
have it, so you'll have to check old messages for reviews or see the
review in Amiga Action.

Xenomorph

Saw it at the store, but haven't played it. Graphics look
good from the shots on the box. I'm interested in a review of this
one.

Eye of the Beholder

This is the first of a new series of first person RPG's from
SSI. It is supposed to be available for IBM and Amiga, but I couldn't
find it for either machine. The VGA graphics in the Ad look good.

After 2 years it looks like the Dungeon Master interface is
catching on. I'm glad, since DM spoiled me to the point where I can't
stand to play Bard's Tale and Ultima types of RPG's. Hopefully, the
game designs will be of the same quality of Dungeon Master. DM's
interface was not enough to make the game a classic---the way the
authors used the interface to construct clever puzzles, the multiple
"solutions" to various aspects of the game, and the gentle tips along
the way all combined to make DM the best RPG yet.
