[comp.sys.amiga.games] C64GS

might find it interesting. Remember the rumored C64GS we kept hearing
about and all the Amiga people were condeming as a bad idea at this
day at age? There were all sorts of specs rumors flying about.

Well, guess what? It DOES exist and is on sale. In europe, of course,
where C64 games are still being made. I read about it in the brittish
mag ZZap64. (Which, oddly enough, also carries Amiga stuff) Apparently
it is nothing more than a C64 with a cartridge port as it's only means
of loading software. The GS stands for Game System and it is designed
to compete with the Nintendo crowds. The carts, I believe, can be up
to 128K in size. The UK game company OCEAN is standing behind the new
machine 100% and has announced that all future games for the C64 from
them will be in cartridge format only save for those they can't do in
cart form because of license agreements with Nintendo.

The article didn't mention much about Specs, just that it was being
released in time for the Christmas rush. It was displayed at the UK
Comdex along with the new CDTV. Commodore UK Officials had some
surprising things to say on several subjects. Over there, they are not
upset about the Game Machine image of the Amiga or C64. In fact, that
A500 box in the UK shows nothing but GAME screen shots on it's cover!
Believe it or not, Deluxe Paint II is still sold over there at an
amazing rate. Commodowith their A590 Hard Disk!

The differences in attitude between the US and UK is amazing
sometimes.

How's the flame collection going?

It looks to me as if something is continually broadcasting your
message again and again and again...

Assuming that it is not my end that is having the problems, my deepest
sym[pathies.... :-)

[it happened to me too!]

Heh. Thanx. Glad to know I am not the ONLY one thats ever happened to.
I think I know what went wrong and I should be able to avoid it in the
future. So far, I have gotten about 10 flames on it!

Here's something else that I wanted to mention about England and their
attitude towards Commodore: Over there, the Amiga is held in high
regard as a game and business machine. We've all known that for awhile
now, but did you know that Commodore UK goes as far as to set up A500
packages based totally on a few games?

In fact, with the overwhelming popularity of the movie by the same
name, the Amiga 500 BATMAN COMBO PACK (A500, RF TV Adapter, 512K and
one drive bundled with the BATMAN: The Movie Video Game) is one of
their all time best sellers over there? The outside of the box is made
up to look sort of bat-cavish with big bold letters pronouncing it as
the A500 BATMAN COMBO. Weird.

You have to see some of these ads to believe it!
