[comp.sys.amiga.games] Powermonger Tips

If food runs low & you have no food in your towns, disband your troops, find a
boat if necessary and roam the landscape with just your captain killing sheep.
Then you can go back to your troops (they didn't consume any food while
you were wandering around) and recruit them all again from your base
tower. Be careful of killing sheep in towns and sometimes the captain attacks
in his own if the town is aggressive, sometimes. Watch out for armies
attacking your home tower. If they have taken over your tower while you were
away, your troops (one by one) will be killed as they arrive home!

If you see a captain on his own wandering around near you, attack him
aggressively otherwise he stays alive and wanders around very ill. Once he is
dead take all of his food and equiptment, I once found over 2000 food.

                Live long and prosper,

Well, I finished it. Indeed, the last map is difficult, but not as
difficult as some others, IMHO. There is an endgame sequence, but
it's not nice like the startup sequence.

I never used trade, spy, or alliance, though I will try them sometime.

Some tips:

Food weighs nothing. At one point I had a captain with 8700 food and
speed of 32.

Immediately kill enemy captains wandering alone. They usually have a
lot of food and a bow. If you leave them alone, they'll gather a
following and make trouble for you later.

You can survive almost any attack with a catapult. My captain fended
off about 80 attackers (mean looking crowd) with 10 men. Once the
catapult hits the enemy leader, his troops immediately run away.
Fortunely, your leader aims for the enemy leader. I even attacked a
town of ten men with only my second leader and a catapult! Four shots
and they were dead before they could reach him.

Cannons seem no better than catapults. I wouldn't waste time making
one if you have a catapult, and vice versa.

Even in passive mode, your troops will sometimes try to defend a
nearby friendly town or castle. When it's a really bad time to do so,
keep using the "move to" gadget to get them away. If you keep trying,
they will eventually break off the attack and move away.

Ever notice how you can attack two identical towns, and the second one
kills off a few of your men? They're weak. If you have time, rest them
up after an attack.

If you want some *really* hard games, let it generate random maps. It
doesn't try too hard to make sure the map is playable. Some are
impossible, and most are quite hard.

Have fun!
