I cannot get my copy of NetHack to work. It loads up OK and prompts me for name and class, but when it goes to the map of the first level, it gives me a long string of error messages of the form: At found null 16 4 -more- Program in disorder, perhaps you'd better quit -more- This is repeated about 20 times. If I then try to move around, the error reoccur. Have I not installed Hack properly? As a less urgent question: my system is an Amiga 1000 with 2 1/2 Meg ram and 2 floppy drives. NetHack 3.0 is 700+ kB, and so takes ages and ages to load up. Is there any way I can put the NetHack executable on the ram disk and then have that copy used when the user clicks on the NetHack icon. It will quickly become unbearable if I have to wait for it to load off the disk every time I want to play.

I can't help with the error messages, though it sure sounds like either installation problems or a corrupt executable. Make sure you have the 3.09 release -- it is very robust on the Amiga. As to the question of running from of RAD:, I did that for months at a stretch before buying a HD. Just follow the installation instructions for a HD but use RAD: instead of DH0:. You'll have to be pretty careful about how you size your RAD: to have enough room in 2.5 megs for both the game and room to execute the game and show its screen. I think you can fix this problem by moving the file hack.font to FONTS: and making the directory FONTS:hack and copying hack/8 to FONTS:hack/8. Hobie Orris
