[comp.sys.amiga.games] Installation of StarControl

ARNOLDR%GRIN1.BITNET@cunyvm.cuny.edu (Arnold,Robert C Jr.) (02/07/91)

After hearing good reviews of this games, I bought it, only to find it
constantly either gurued or lost track of disk 2. If run from the floppy, it
can't find disk2 (I've tried renaming the disk the name in the requestor, but
that didn't help; perhaps there is an invisible character in the file
name???). After installation on my hard drive (I just put everything into
one directory; the install script was broken by looking for directories on
the floppy that weren't there) the game would run, but would always crash
after a varying amount of time--usually right after the title screen came
up, sometimes right before, sometimes right after the options screen, but
before the game actually started.

If anyone has successfully conquered these problems, *please* let me know
how you did it. I have an Amiga 2000 with a 2090a hard drive controller
and 3 meg of memory, if the configuration matters.

thanks,
rob

Yeah, I've got the same problems. StarControl gurues after X number of
minutes. Running from a HardDrive w/GVP controller on an A2000 w/9 megs.

Kinda ticks me off. oh, well...

Apparently there were some bad disk 2's shipped with Star Control. If
you call Accolade support (phone # is in the manual), I think they will
send you a new one. This info is based on an e-mail exchange I was having
with a guy on GEnie who was having problems similar to the ones you're having.
