I am having some trouble. Recently, the binaries to NetHack 3.0 patchlevel 10 were posted to comp.sys.binaries.amiga. I saved them, stripped off the top lines, ran the files through sh, concatenated the result, and uudecoded the .zuu file to get a .zoo file. Now after I downloaded the .zoo files to my computer, I used zoo to test the archives. Disk 1 was fine, but disk 2 gave me a bad CRC error on the Guidebook. (The error is fatal -- zoo refuses to process the file or anything after it in the archive.) What is my problem?? Guess #1: I didn't get things correctly in binary mode. But I managed to get disk #1 just fine and I used the same command to get disk #2. Guess #2: I downloaded onto a disk that is going bad. Maybe that caused a problem. But when I downloaded onto a disk I've never had trouble with, zoo complained exactly as before. Guess #3: Somehow one of the files I received over Usenet was corrupted. I can't verify this myself. Any help is appreciated. Please respond by e-mail. I will post in the unlikely event the trouble is with the archive. John Massman massman@symcom.math.uiuc.edu

I posted a message about a possible corrupt NetHack file received through comp.binaries.amiga. With help from several people, I discovered that the part 01/03 of disk 2 (of NetHack 3.0 patchlevel 10) was corrupted at uxa.cso.uiuc.edu (our site). A correct file unshar'ed will have disk02.zuu01 with a byte size of 56343. (The byte size was incorrect here.) If anyone is suffering from the same problem, just e-mail me and I will send you the file directly. Alternatively, you can ftp the binaries from linc.cis.upenn.edu.
