In response to your message of Wed Aug 17 13:59:27 1983: The American legal system was never a search for truth; it was an outgrowth of (mostly) the English legal system, which was developed for the (relatively) peaceful resolution of disputes, and which is long on ceremonial euphony that fools very few people.
