[comp.sys.amiga.games] DM Stuff

[soapbox on]

DM has been finished by more than one person WITHOUT posting to
the net; that much is true. Leave us not jump down others'
throats, however. Sure, some of the questions asked here make it
obvious that the player hasn't spent more than 30 seconds trying
to figure things out for themselves, but others are the same
puzzles that had us stumped for days. (Or weeks!)

Yet who is to decide whether a plea for help is legitimate? Is
there really anybody out there who thinks they're in a position
to judge others? [chorus of 'yeah's and 'I do's...] Even so,
we might want to take a deep breath and exercise some of the
patience that allowed us to finish the game in the first place.

By the same token, however, those who post to the net (costing the
net 'hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to distribute all over
the country,' and then some) should make an honest effort to
figure it out for themselves...

[soapbox off]

NOW! Some tips for general strategy might be in order:

1) If you can't seem to do what you want, try a different
approach. The designers are sneaky and indirect--you can be,
   too.

2) If you can't find your way around, try simple maps. Most
puzzles in DM are disgustingly simple once you figure out where
   to go...

3) Remember that most of the puzzles are logical, with simple
answers. You have teleporters, spinners, buttons, stairs and
illusion walls. At least you know that the puzzles are limited
   to that...

4) USE YOUR SAVE GAME OPTION! If what you try doesn't work, or
you die, restart. ('You can't kill me, I'm invincible!')

5) There's more than one way to do things. Always. This is why
   #1 works so well...

SPOILERS!

On DiamondEdge: I picked it up, turned and threw it. With my
strength, the sword ended up at the other end of the hall. My
characters took a whole 5 points of damage from the trap. (Out
of about 200...whoopee...)

There are three endings to DM1.

Lots of monsters are easy to deal with when you let THEM chase
YOU. Even LC was a sucker...

[Enough... I ramble...]

I only know of two: (1) Destroying Chaos, or
			    (2) Getting blasted by Lord Law.

        What is the other one??????

RE: 3 ENDINGS TO DUNGEON MASTER.....Well, other than successfully
completing the game, what other "ending" is there? And it's the Grey
Lord who appears at the dungeon entrance...who's Lord Law? Oh, I see!
Opposite of CHAOS, eh?....very good, haha! But it would be Lord ORDER
wouldn't it? As in CHAOS/ORDER??
