We are taking a vacation in Guadeloupe end of March and would like any and all information about that tropical (hopefully) island from experienced travellers. I picked it out of Frommer's and Birnbaum's (no relation) guides to the Caribbean because it looked, well, irresistible - French cuisine, Caribbean charm, nice beaches, some hiking, history, etc. All responses will be greatly appreciated- either in this newsgroup or to me: Martha Birnbaum AT&T-IS Neptune, NJ ...npoiv!mjb

A while ago I asked if anyone had info about Guadeloupe, in the French Caribbean. I got two replies, one glowing, one pretty negative. I leave for a week on March 19, and will post my views upon my return. Let's see if the island is a) charming, nice beaches, warm people, great food, or b) unfriendly, dingy and tacky, poverty-ridden, and great food.
