I've uploaded the file harpoondatapatch.lzh to /incoming/amiga /GAMES at ftp site abcfd20.larc.nasa.gov (128.155.23.64). This file includes patches for NACV.dat and GIUK.dat, as well as a text file that describes some of the format of the data files, and a freely-redistributable file hex editor to use in executing the patches, or making your own. (The editor is Fileman 1.06, which is actually available separately at the same ftp site.) The main effort in making the patches was in making the sonar numbers correspond to the much different values in the Harpoon Data Annex 1990-91 edition (for the boardgame). Note that for unknown technical reasons, scenarios must be 'run through' the Harpoon scenario editor with the modified databases in order for changes in the sensors of platforms to 'take'. Ironically, this seems to be the best use I've made of the editor so far. Anyway, it's not too expensive. Should be about $25 by mail and comes with a program to convert IBM Harpoon scenarios to Amiga format. I would appreciate feedback on this. If I don't feel too lazy I'll update it soon by including a patch for the mediterranean battleset. Totally unrelated: Simulations Canada has finally come out with their WW2 tactical titles for the Amiga. These include Long Lance, In Harm's Way, Kriegsmarine, and Fleet Med. These are really outstanding simulations, though they lack neat graphics and sound. I'm also eagerly awaiting their computer game Seapower and the State, should be out in the fall. This will simulate modern naval global warfare and seems to be adapted from their excellent boardgame of the same title.
