I am planning to drive across the United States this summer, San Diego to New York. I am going to travel a northern route. I'd like to ask for any hints or suggestions that any of you may have for an adventure like this. What are the MUST SEES? What could just as well be skipped? What are some of the preferred routes to take. Some of the places I definitely want to see are Glacier, The Grand Tetons, Wind Cave, Minnesota, Michigan U.P. and The Grand Hotel on Machinaw Island, MI. My route will obviously not be a direct one. I don't have any time constraint (only financial). I've got my tent and my backpack and would like to camp along the way and cook my own meals ala my camp stove. I'm tentatively planning on taking 6 weeks to complete the journey. Please mail me any information and/or clues. If I get a flood of responses I will summarize and post the info back to the net. If any of you New Yorkers out there would like to help acclimatize a Californian to the joys of East Coast living I'd certainly love to hear from you.
