[comp.sys.amiga.games] Killing Wizard in SWORD OF SODAN?

djh@neuromancer.metaphor.com (Dallas J. Hodgson) (03/14/91)

I've finished playing SWORD both with and without the infinite-life cheat
mode on. What I've found is that it requires a near-perfect game (no lives
lost), 4 magic items (zap, zap, zap, shield) and a lot of patience to kill
the wizard at the end.

My question: Is there any more effective way of killing the wizard? Seems
hard to believe that any HUMAN player could get past this point without
the cheat.

It is not hard to do. You just have to know when to kill him. First of
all you have a time limit to kill him because if you wait to long he'll
start firing his blue arrows at you which will cause death. The key is
to listen for the music and the screen shaking. When this happens all you
have to do is hit him in the star upon his head then he'll be dead.

Don't use your 'zaps' until the end. Then use them all on the wizard. You
can usually blow him away with normal fighting after that. I never did know
about an 'infinite lives' cheat and was able to kill the wizard effectively
after about a week of playing. When I stopped playing the game, it was my
goal to try and kill the wizard without using any 'zaps'. I came close, but
no cigar.
